Wildlife Removal
This is mostly carpentry with an animal caught in the middle, and four months a year when bats are simply non-negotiable.
Learn about Wildlife RemovalBuilt into the woods rather than cleared out of them, so shade and humidity stay high the whole year. Some houses sit on slab and some on raised floors, and which of the two you own changes the approach entirely.
Killearn Lakes was built from the 1980s onward on wooded ground north of Bradfordville, and it kept far more of its trees than a subdivision of that size normally does. The greenbelt, the stormwater lakes and the wooded lot lines are what people like about it and they are also the whole pest story. Wildlife has continuous cover to move through, so armadillos, raccoons, opossums and squirrels are routine rather than unusual, and the same cover brings the rodents that follow. Roof rats use overhanging limbs to reach roofs that were never far from the canopy in the first place. Smokybrown roaches breed in the leaf litter and mulch and come in through soffit and weep-hole gaps, often to houses whose owners are certain they must be doing something wrong. Fire ants take the sunny gaps and the open verges. The ground is clay-based and holds water, so foundations stay damp on the shaded side and subterranean termites work through the year.
Subterranean termite swarms in this part of the Southeast follow warm, humid spring weather, roughly February through May each year.
Renovation history is the wildcard on Killearn Lakes properties, where the stock is 1980s through 2000s build on wooded lots, mostly slab with some raised-floor construction on the steeper ground. A finished room under an old house, or an addition poured up against an existing slab, usually hides the original outside wall and whatever gap nobody closed when the work was done.
Being close to Killearn Lakes stormwater lakes and Lake Iamonia to the north means the outside of a building takes a beating. Trim swells, sealant lets go, a threshold stops meeting the door, and each of those opens a gap too small to notice and wide enough to use. Exclusion work pays for itself around Killearn Lakes for that reason.
Retained tree cover keeps humidity high and the ground shaded, so damp conditions against foundations persist through dry weeks. Short, mild winters and long humid stretches mean the licensed pros we connect you with stay busy around Killearn Lakes for most months of the year.
A crawl space under an older Killearn Lakes house takes longer to inspect and treat than a slab of the same size does.

Cleanliness is not what is driving it. The large reddish-brown roach here is the smokybrown, and it lives outdoors in leaf litter, mulch beds and tree hollows, then comes in one at a time through a soffit gap, a weep hole, a garage door seal or around a utility line. The things that change it are physical: limbs cut back off the roof, mulch pulled away from the wall, gutters clear, and the openings sealed. Interior spraying treats the individuals that already got in and nothing about the reason they keep coming.
It makes removal alone pointless and exclusion more valuable. A continuous corridor of cover means the animals you trap are replaced, so money spent on removal without sealing the building is money spent annually. Screening the foundation and gable vents, closing soffit gaps, capping the chimney, closing in the underside of decks and sheds, and keeping bins secure changes what your property offers. After that, removal deals with whatever is already inside rather than with an endless queue.
Somewhat, and it is a smaller difference than people assume. A house built since the mid-1990s had a code-required pretreatment and there should be a durable notice near the water heater or the electric panel saying who did it and when. That protection has a date and a defined warranty period, and a thirty-year-old subdivision has plenty of houses well past both. Add wooded lots, mulch beds, landscape timbers and stumps left in the ground, and the pressure on this ground is high regardless of the build date.
Newer subdivisions are built on slab; a lot of the older housing stands on piers with an open space beneath the floor. Neither has a basement. Which of the two you own in Killearn Lakes decides where a licensed pro looks first for termite entry or moisture damage.
Tell somebody what you have found and roughly where. The inspection costs nothing, the findings arrive in writing, and Killearn Lakes is near enough that routine work normally goes out inside a day or two.
